At some point, there's going to be a third world war. And after World War 3, who knows what's left after World War 3? ... There's arguably this race between do we become a multi-planet species or World War 3. Which one is first? And if World War 3 is first, then maybe we never get to another planet.

I generally think... the government shouldn't oppress the people and stuff and shouldn't be mandating lots of things, telling people what to do. We don't want a Big Brother situation where the government's just bossing people around. We should just make sure freedom in America is preserved.

There's probably not aliens. And I think that's kind of scary, actually, because then what it would suggest is that consciousness, civilization as we know it, is extremely rare and a very precious thing where our consciousness is like a small candle in a vast darkness, and we must not let that small candle go out.

The window of opportunity to make life multiplanetary and have a base on the moon or Mars is open for the first time in the 4.5 billion-year history of Earth ... We should assume it'll be open for a short time, and while the window of opportunity is open, we should make life multiplanetary.

Even though Doge was just designed to be this ridiculous joke currency, the actual total transactional throughput capability of Doge is much higher than Bitcoin. And the fact that there's 5 billion Doge created every year is, actually, I think, good for using it as a transactional currency.

A philosophy I think makes sense is... to expand consciousness so that we're better able to answer the questions of, like, what is the meaning of life? What is the nature of the universe? What are even the right questions to ask? And if we can expand consciousness... then our opportunity to understand the meaning of life is that much greater.

If the universe is really 13.8 billion-years-old, shouldn't there be aliens everywhere? And if not, why not? I think it was Carl Sagan who said that... there's either a lot of aliens or no aliens—and either one is equally terrifying.

Tesla's success or failure will not be because of competition. Do we make a high-quality product at a price people can afford? And I kind of feel guilty right now. Our prices are kind of high, you know?

The problem is when people get old, they don't change their minds; they just die. So, if you want to have progress in society, you got to make sure that, you know, people need to die, because they get old, they don't change their mind.

China has got a huge population collapse problem ... Lowest birth rate ever last year ... China's birth rate right now is 40% below replacement.

I'm hoping inflation goes down. I think it probably will, actually ... At Tesla, we're seeing the prices of commodities 6 months out are— More are going down than up. So, that's a positive sign on the inflation front.

The problem is like Instagram, man, it's just a thirst trap, you know?

Well, something created the universe or universes. How did it come to be? You could say whatever caused the universe to come to be is God or gods, depending on your view.

If we make Mars a self-sustaining civilization, I think the probable lifespan of humanity is very long. If we don't, if we never expand beyond Earth, then I don't think the lifespan of humanity will be long.

We can't count on humanity being able to make life multiplanetary forever. Like I said, that window of opportunity, it could be open for a long time; it could be open for a short time. But we should assume that is open for a short time.

I find weed's not that good for productivity. I do actually have to make the rockets work and the cars work and make the factories work and stuff.

The fact that we were able to go to the moon in '69 was such an anomalous situation. It was like reaching into the future and bringing the technology forward that normally wouldn't be there. That was not the natural pace of technology development.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not seen any evidence of aliens, and I think I know.

I don't think there's anything sort of super interesting in Area 51. There are more advanced weapons that the US has that people don't know about, but they're not, like, crazy alien weapons.

I think I could probably solve longevity to some degree, but I don't want to.
